Top Tips Day 6 BEDM

Top Tips Day 6 BEDM

Day 6 prompt for Blog Everyday in May #BEDM is Top Tips.

Here’s my 10 Top Tips.

Learn how to budget your money. It’s better than living month to month.

Check out supermarket deals before you go shopping. Is something you buy regularly on offer this week?

Learn how to cook ‘from scratch’. It’s cheaper and better for you than prepared food and ‘ready meals’.

You don’t need anti-bacterial clothes wash. Really?! What do you do with it when it comes out of the washing machine – Hang it on the line in the open air where all sorts of bacteria get on it.. 99.9% of it is harmless.

Listen to your children, play with them, be silly with them. They grow up fast and before you know it they are married and have children of their own or have moved to the other side of the world!

When your mum says take a coat or umbrella with you, make sure you do. It’ll rain for sure if you don’t!

You know those lovely jar candles you have? Do you burn your fingers trying to light them? Well just grab a length of dried spaghetti and light the end of that. Voila! a long taper to light your jar candle!

Having trouble dozing off or getting back to sleep?
Try counting, not just any counting, counting like this – Firstly get comfy. Starting at 300 you are going to count backwards in 3’s (300, 297, 294, 291 etc). On each number think about your breathing and slowly breath in on one number and out on the next.  If you find your mind wandering concentrate and start again.
The aim of this technique is to distract your brain from what’s keeping you awake. Counting backwards and in 3’s makes the brain work to keep track.

When you’re pregnant with your first child you’ll want to have everything that you think will make for a happy baby and mummy. But believe me you don’t NEED most of it!
Moses Basket – NO – start off with a cot and good cot bumpers.
3 in 1 buggy/pram/car seat – NO – buy a good basic buggy and buy a car seat that will last longer than a few months.
Nappy Bag – NO – Paying over £100 for what is basically a big handbag? I used a big tote bag and a few plastic bags and pots. Much cheaper!
Walker, bouncer, high chair –  MAYBE – but check with friends and family and either borrow them or make them an offer. Also check the local ‘for sale’ pages in the newspaper or online. You’ll only need a walker or bouncer for a matter of weeks so why not have secondhand.

Now this last one may be a bit controversial! Throw away the selfie stick. No one and I mean NO ONE wants to see you pouting / posing in front of a landmark or anything else.  Just take a beautiful picture without you in it.

This is one of my favourites. Taken at Caerphilly Castle last year. Google Assistant did the black and white tweaking!

Thanks Nikki. I got so fed up of them when on holiday last year. Seems everyone wants ‘in’ on the shot. I call them Selfish sticks!

  2. Faye Lambert

Great post! I love the sleep counting tip & shall certainly be trying it next time I can’t sleep (which is quite often!) X

Do try it Faye, it sounds weird but it really does work.

  3. Mellissa Williams

Wise words Soosie, wise words! Cooking from scratch can really save loads of money. I love my slow cooker, as using cheaper cuts of meat in it saves me a fortune.

Oh how about that for tip #11… Become friends with your slow cooker. 😉
