Fireworks Night – Day 5 #BEDN
I have seen some displays in the UK when my boys were young and of course watched some magnificent ones on the TV. But none comes close to seeing a display in Sydney Harbour.
We were in Australia 2 years ago for our son’s wedding – on the beach at the Gold Coast. While they went north to Cairns for their honeymoon we drove south to Sydney via Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour and Newcastle.
When we arrived in Sydney there were notices near the Harbour stating that certain roads would be closed. I couldn’t understand why until I saw the volume of people going to the Harbour for the fireworks!
I can honestly say I’ve never seen so many people all in one place! Thousands and thousands! When the fireworks were over you could understand why the roads were closed…it was so that eveyone could leave the Harbour area safely.
It must have taken well over an hour for everyone to clear out and into the city centre!
Sydney was hosting the International Fleet Review which culminated in a fantastic day of aircraft flyovers, boats and ships of all sizes and finally a Fireworks Display.
We decided to go to the Harbour Bridge side of Circular Quay so we could see the light show on the Opera House walls.
Not the best of photos – my camera just isn’t powerful enough! I took these by selecting ‘Hi-Speed Burst’ from the Scene selection.
The display lasted for well over 30 minutes and was accompanied by music and lasers. It was fantastic and I’d love to be there for a New Year show!!
What’s the best fireworks show you’ve seen?
